# How do I get an NTEE code?

The IRS will assign you an NTEE code based on your mission statement or the selection you make on Form 1023 when applying to be recognized as exempt. [Here is the IRS link for more information](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p557.pdf).

Once the IRS updates its database, we will show that NTEE code on your Giving Compass profile.
