# How is Compass Explorer different from general AI tools?

General AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude pull from a broad range of internet sources, which may or may not come directly from nonprofits. That can make it hard to know how current or reliable the information is.

Compass Explorer searches a validated, regularly updated database of 1.9 million nonprofits. The data comes directly from nonprofits and government sources, and includes financials, grant history, leadership data, and more.
