What are Impact Data & Stories?
Impact Data & Stories helps you understand what a nonprofit has actually accomplished in their own words, from their own reports.
Instead of reading through dense annual reports, you can browse AI-generated summaries of real outcomes and transformation stories, all sourced directly from nonprofits' published reports and verified with links back to the original documents.
You can explore Impact Data & Stories at givingcompass.org/impact or from the Impact tab on any nonprofit's profile page.
Impact Stories
Impact Stories surface the human moments behind the data — the before, the turning point, and the after. Each story is drawn directly from a nonprofit's own published report and includes:
- A narrative of what changed and for whom
- Direct quotes from people affected when available
- Key metrics tied to the story (e.g., "10K meals," "212 people")
- A link to the original source report so you can verify for yourself
You can search stories by keyword. The search is designed to understand what you mean, not just what you type — so searching "helping homeless families" will surface relevant housing and family support stories even if those exact words don't appear.
Impact Data
Impact Metrics show measurable achievements reported by nonprofits, such as meals served, volunteer hours, or people housed. You can browse metrics across organizations or filter by type to compare similar achievements side by side.
Each metric includes a link to the source report for verification.
Finding stories and metrics for a specific nonprofit
You can explore a specific organization's impact two ways:
- Visit the nonprofit's profile page and click the Impact tab
- On the Impact page, click any nonprofit's name to filter by that organization

Impact Stories & Metrics is available to all Giving Compass users. A free account gives you a preview of available content.

A note on data quality and coverage
Every story and metric is extracted from a nonprofit's own published annual or impact report. The AI only surfaces content that meets a quality threshold, yielding fewer, more reliable results rather than a high volume of lower-quality content.
Not all nonprofits publish annual reports online, and some reports may not contain the kind of specific achievements or narratives the system looks for. If you don't see stories or metrics for a specific organization, that's likely why.
If a story or metric ever seems inaccurate, each one includes a View Report link so you can check it against the original source.
